Emma Sue Palmer, 84, housekeeper, deaconess

Emma Sue Palmer, a former housekeeper and homemaker, died of Hodgkin's disease Tuesday at Forest Haven Nursing and Convalescent Home in Catonsville. She was 84 and lived in Southwest Baltimore.

Emma Sue Bruce was born in South Boston, Va., where she attended public schools. She moved to Baltimore in 1938 and found work as a housekeeper. She was married in 1941 to Douglas Palmer, a Bethlehem Steel Corp. crane operator, who died in 1989.

Mrs. Palmer enjoyed cooking, gardening and entertaining. She was a 50-year member and deaconess of First Christian Community Baptist Church, 4116 Groveland Ave., where services will be held at noon Tuesday.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by a son, Gerald G. Palmer of Baltimore; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
