BLUE JAYS: Signed C Bobby Estalella to minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Syracuse.

CUBS: Placed P Kerry Wood on 15-day DL, retroactive to May 13, due to injured triceps. Recalled P Michael Wuertz from Triple-A Iowa.

METS: Placed P Al Leiter on 15-day DL, retroactive to May 12, with left shoulder tendinitis. Purchased contract of OF Esix Snead from Triple-A Norfolk.

PHILLIES: Activated P Roberto Hernandez from 15-day DL.

ROCKIES: Placed P Scott Elarton on waivers for purpose of giving him unconditional release.

USBL: Reinstated St. Louis coach Floyd Irons; he was suspended May 10 for pulling team off floor and missed two games.

ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM: Announced that men's basketball coach Mike Anderson received five-year deal worth up to $775,000 annually.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S: NEC named Mount St. Mary's P Dustin Pease (Archbishop Spalding) Rookie of the Year; named Pease and OF Jason Weszka (Glenelg) first-team all-conference; named 1B Eric Smith, 3B Burt Stormes, OF Jim Jefferson, C Adam Schlenoff (Loyola).

SHEPHERD: P Scott Koscielniak (Old Mill/CCBC-Catonsville) was named to baseball North Atlantic All-Region team.

SHIPPENSBURG: National Fast Pitch Coaches Association named P Kelley Tiesi (Catholic) NCAA Division II Softball Player of the Year and first-team All-American.

OWINGS MILLS: M Eric Fishel was named Academic High School Lacrosse All-American, joining his brothers, Matt Fishel (1998) and Robert Fishel (2001), who received the honor as seniors at Pikesville.
