May 18, 2004

A South Carolina man was charged with attempted murder and assault after several shots were fired at a Severn man early Sunday outside an Odenton motel, Anne Arundel County police said.

Kevin Johnson, 28, of Bowman, S.C., was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, four counts of assault, reckless endangerment, handgun violations and theft in the incident at New Star Inn on Annapolis Road, police said. Police said the target, Horace Lendell Brockington, was charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct after refusing to cooperate with officers.

Police said the incident started as a dispute between two men inside the inn. They said one left and re-entered with a handgun, which he pointed at several people. The crowd moved outside, where the man fired at Brockington at least twice, said police, who responded to the scene about 1:30 a.m. Brockington was not wounded.
