Navy defeated Penn, 11-5, this afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The win advances the Mids (13-2) to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament, where Navy will face Cornell (9-4)Sunday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y. It is Navy's first quarterfinal appearance since 1989.
On the day, Navy doubled up Penn in the shots category (36-18), while grounders were nearly even with Navy grabbing 38 and Penn taking 37. Navy won 12 of the 20 face-offs.
Navy's Joe Bossi led all scorers with four goals while teammates Ian Dingman and Graham Gill added two. P.J. Gilbert led Penn (7-7) with two goals.
Matt Russell made seven saves for Navy.
