A 75-year-old woman died and another woman was injured in a fire early yesterday in Holbrook in western Baltimore County, county police said.

Helen Edmondson was found about 4 a.m. on the lawn in front of her two-story home in the 10700 block of Liberty Road, authorities said. A Fire Department spokeswoman said she may have jumped from a second-story window in the home.

Two other adults were on the first floor when the fire started, and one of them was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's burn unit for treatment for smoke inhalation, the spokeswoman said. A man escaped uninjured, she said.

Fire officials and police did not release the injured woman's name yesterday.

The fire closed a portion of Liberty Road through the morning rush hour and into the early afternoon, police said. It had reopened by 3 p.m.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. The home appeared to have a working smoke detector, officials said.
