Officials seek state money to add parking at CCC

Carroll County officials are proceeding with plans to secure state money to expand Carroll Community College's parking lot by 270 spaces.

Yesterday, the county commissioners signed three letters to state agencies, including the Maryland Higher Education Commission, expressing their intention to proceed. That is required before the Board of Public Works can approve funding.

The project is expected to cost about $1.03 million, with the county paying $427,860. County officials are seeking state money to cover the rest.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006 on the Washington Road campus. The community college's parking lot has 1,242 spaces.

County to seek applicants for public information post

Carroll County officials will advertise next week for a public information officer, a position that was restructured to include broader responsibilities.

The public information officer will work closely with departments to distribute county news and information to the media, county chief of staff Steven D. Powell told the commissioners yesterday.

The communications coordinator position has been vacant since Jen Ruppert resigned recently for personal reasons. The change provided an opportunity for county officials to restructure the position, Powell said.

Eldersburg library closed today for paving work

The Eldersburg library branch will be closed today for parking lot paving.

The branch's staff will not have access to the building to answer phone calls or conduct programs. All events that were to be held today will be rescheduled.

The paving is part of a 2,500-square-foot expansion project that began last summer. Information: 410-386-4500, Ext. 196.
