Theater to hold auditions May 22 for high school kids

FoolProof Improvisational Theatre will hold auditions for the next school year May 22 at Westminster East Middle School on Longwell Avenue.

In its 18th year, FoolProof helps teens and their families deal with issues such as drug and alcohol abuse.

The group performs primarily in schools and addiction rehabilitation centers.

Auditions will be held from 9 a.m. to about 4:15 p.m. and are open to all high school students in Carroll County.

No prepared work or acting experience is required.

Participants should wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to stay all day.

Registration will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Barbershop chorus show will be presented May 23

The Old Line Statesmen Barbershop Chorus will present its 21st annual spring show, "Everything Old Is New Again," at 3 p.m. May 23 at the Scott Center at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.

Guest performers will include Voce Viaggio, the traveling singers from the Children's Chorus of Carroll County; the Gentlemen's Blend Quartet; and the chapter quartets Yesterday's Dreams, Mark IV and All in Accord.

The program will feature the Statesmen, Gentlemen's Blend and children singing "Play a Simple Melody."

Tickets are $8 for those older than 6.

Children age 6 and younger are admitted free.

Tickets are available in advance at the Carroll Arts Center and Coffey and Stu's music stores.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Carroll group is involved in Pa. bluegrass jamboree

The West Manheim Township Park and Recreation Board will hold Bluegrass Jamboree for the Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 23 at the Southwestern High School auditorium in Hanover, Pa.

The event is being held to raise money for the construction of a 113-acre community recreation park in West Manheim Township.

The Carroll County Ramblers and the Pennsylvania bands Iron Ridge from Hanover and Twin Hill Express from Waynesboro are donating their time and talents.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Children younger than age 10 are admitted half-price.
