William J. McGuire III, 44, financial planner

William Joseph McGuire III, a financial planner and outdoorsman, died of cancer May 7 at his Crofton home. He was 44.

Mr. McGuire was born in Montgomery, Ala., and raised in Upper Marlboro. After graduating from Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Mr. McGuire was a salesman for several years before joining Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in the company's Annapolis office, where he has worked since 1995.

He enjoyed playing blues guitar, fishing and grouse hunting.

Mr. McGuire attended Community United Methodist Church in Crofton, where services were held yesterday.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, the former Cindy A. Gaudreaux; a daughter, Clare Delaney McGuire, 6; a son, Jack Thomas McGuire, 2; his mother, Jeannette Carter McGuire of Annapolis; and two sisters, Leslie Favre of Crofton and Sharon Robertson of LaPlata.
