The following is a guide to the annual pre-race events.

Miller Lite Nites

Miller Lite Nites continue today with a concert from Shinedown.

The Florida-based metal act will play in support of its first major-label release, Leave a Whisper. Rock group 1,000 Ft. Krutch is also billed. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Tomorrow, the series wraps with country music star Darryl Worley, who'll sing his hit "Have You Forgotten?" Detour is also scheduled to play a set. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Sunset cruise

Lounge around the city's waterfront at 5 p.m. today, when majestic tall ships will cruise into the local waters.

The Clipper City, the schooner Imagine, the Lady Maryland and other vessels will parade through Charm City's harbor, sailing past Fells Point and Canton.

The Baltimore City Fire Boat will offer a spectacle in the form of a water-hose display.

Preakness crab derby

Local celebrities will jockey blue crabs today as the crustaceans scuttle toward a finish line at the Lexington Market.

A $500 donation will be made to a charity chosen by the winner of this afternoon event. Post time is 12:15 p.m.

Constellation gala

Mix and mingle on the deck of the Constellation tomorrow at the ship's fifth annual fund-raising deck party.

BLAST! partygoers can listen to the Gamble Brothers Band while savoring cuisine from the Brass Elephant.

A silent auction and tours will also take place at the 7 p.m. event. Tickets are $85.
