School board's regular meeting scheduled tomorrow

The Howard County Board of Education will hold a regularly scheduled meeting at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the boardroom at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

The afternoon session, and an evening session that starts at 7:30 p.m., will begin with a public forum, during which members of the public can address the board on any topic for which there is no formal hearing process.

Sign-up is preferred two weeks in advance.

The board will hold a public work session during the evening to set category totals on the fiscal 2005 operating budget.

Retirement party set for former principal

The PTSA of Centennial High School will give a retirement party in honor of Lynda Mitic, the school's past principal, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the school cafeteria.

Students, former students, parents and members of the community are invited.

Howard schools provide commencement schedule

The Howard County public school system has set its commencement schedule:

Atholton High School commencement ceremonies will begin at 1 p.m. June 1; Hammond High School, at 4:30 p.m.; and Wilde Lake High School, at 8 p.m.

River Hill High School's commencement will begin at 9:30 a.m. June 2; Long Reach High School, at 1 p.m.; Howard High School, at 4:30 p.m.; and Mount Hebron High School, at 8 p.m.

Oakland Mills High School's commencement will begin at 9:30 a.m. June 3; Cedar Lane School, at 10 a.m.; Centennial High School, at 1 p.m.; and Glenelg High School, at 4:30 p.m.

The ceremonies will take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, with the exception of Cedar Lane School, which will hold its commencement ceremony at the school.

County shools seek input on special education plan

The Howard County public school system seeks comment and suggestions from the community for its Special Education Staffing Plan 2004-2005.
