Frankel takes over as Toccet's trainer

May 07, 2004|By Tom Keyser

Laurel-based Toccet has been transferred to Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel at Belmont Park at the behest of Dan Borislow, Toccet's owner.

Under the care of Laurel trainer John Scanlan, the 4-year-old Toccet won seven of 21 races, including two Grade I stakes as a 2-year-old. Borislow said he would keep his other horses with Scanlan.

"I love John, and I feel bad for him," Borislow told The Blood-Horse. "But the reason I decided to make the switch had nothing to do with him.

"I changed trainers because I could not trust myself with making bad decisions with Toccet anymore, and I didn't listen to my trainer on his advice with the horse.

"I asked Frankel to take over his training because he is known for being his own boss."
