New Ravens president Dick Cass yesterday announced the promotion of Kevin Byrne and Dennis Mannion to senior vice presidents in the organization.

Byrne, who enters his 24th year with the franchise and 26th in the NFL, will continue to oversee public and community relations. Mannion, who joined the team late in 1999, will be responsible for all Ravens-related revenues and brand development as the senior vice president for business ventures.

"Steve [Bisciotti, team owner] and I have developed an enormous confidence in Dennis and Kevin and look forward to working with them for many years," Cass said in a statement. "Together they have 50 years of experience in the sports entertainment business. They have exhibited strong leadership abilities and are significant contributors who have helped make the Ravens the highly successful organization it is today."

Byrne, a journalism major at Marquette University, has spent most of his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns and Ravens, starting as publicity director in Cleveland in 1981. He became vice president of public relations in 1983 and moved with the team to Baltimore.

Mannion, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, is in his 24th year in pro sports. He handled business operations for the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and the NBA's Denver Nuggets while serving as senior vice president of Ascent Sports. He spent 16 years in baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies before that.
