Updated street map to include local business information

The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce is offering an opportunity to market businesses to the community through its association with Target Maps.

Target Maps will publish an updated four-color Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Detail Street Map. Target Maps will be publishing 16,000 copies of the map, which is endorsed by the chamber. The map will be published this year and distributed over 24-months.

There will be a Business and Professional Showcase Directory of Members that will classify participating businesses by category and include a brief description of products and services. The maps will be distributed to thousands of new residents, businesses and visitors. Information: 800-933-3909.

Kara Kiebler Franklin joins technology incubator

The Chesapeake Innovation Center, the nation's first business incubator for the homeland security technology sector, has hired Kara Kiebler Franklin as director of external affairs.

Franklin is a governmental affairs veteran with experience at the federal and state level. She has a bachelor of arts degree in American government from Georgetown University and a master of public administration degree from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Her experience includes positions in the U.S. Department of State, Office of Legislative Affairs; the office of a U.S. senator; and the office of the president of the General Assembly.

Franklin joins the CIC from PSComm LLC of Rockville.

Chamber to hold seminar on promoting business

The West County Chamber of Commerce will present a Lunch and Learn seminar: "Words that Sell, Promoting Your Business Effectively with the Written Word," from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel on National Business Parkway in Annapolis Junction.

The seminar is sponsored by Arundel Mills mall, Courtyard by Marriott and the Karsner Tax Advisory Group. Lunch is included. The cost is $20 for members with advance registration, $25 at the door, and $30 for nonmembers. Advance registration is recommended. Information: 301-498-8400.
