Baltimore native, DORIS FINNEY PENN, 81, died on April 5, 2004 at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, AK. Mrs. Penn was born on July 12, 1922 in Baltimore, MD. She married, raised two children, and ran a bacteriology lab with her first husband on Baltimore. Following her retirement and the death of her own mother in 1955, she was finally free to heed the call of wilder places. In 1996, at the age of 74, she left Baltimore and moved to Anchorage. Mrs. Penn had an adventuresome spirit and a love of life that drew her to Alaska and kept her active and fully engaged in life until the very end. Not long after her arrival in Anchorage, she met Tommy Penn and they married in August of 2000. The two continued to pursue adventures together until their declining health prevented the rigors of travel. Mrs. Penn was preceded in death by her first husband, William W. Finney and her second husband J.T. "Tommy" Penn. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Finney-Mc Kinnon and son-in-law, Mike Mc Kinnon of Anchorage; daughter, Webster Finney of Novato, CA and granddaughter, Kelton Finney and her partner Ann Rule of San Francisco, CA. The family is planning a celebration of her life to be held on her birthday this coming summer in Anchorage. Her cremated remains will be interred at Presbyterian cemetery in Churchville Maryland at a later date. Arrangements were made with Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E. Street, Anchorage, AK.
