Lyme support group sponsoring program about ticks May 13

The Harford County Lyme Disease Support Group is sponsoring a program on ticks and tick-borne diseases for physicians and the public at 7:30 p.m. May 13 at Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road in Street.

The speaker will be Sandy Evans, a biologist from the Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine. Evans is a lifelong resident of Harford County and has worked for 30 years at Aberdeen Proving Ground. She will discuss the threat of major tick-borne diseases in the United States, tick habitats, tick life cycles, the prevention of tick bites, personal protective techniques, proper removal of ticks and tick control around the home.

Arthritis Walk scheduled May 16 at Harford college

The Arthritis Foundation will sponsor an Arthritis Walk on May 16 at Harford Community College. Registration is to begin at 11 a.m.

Volunteers, individual participants, teams and team leaders are sought for the walk. Two courses are offered: 5 kilometers and 1 mile. Participants who raise $100 or more will earn an Arthritis Walk T-shirt.
