Oakland Mills honoring 4 volunteers, councilman

April 27, 2004

Four Volunteers of the Year and Howard County Councilman David A. Rakes are to be honored at a board meeting of the Oakland Mills Community Association at 7:30 p.m. today.

Elinda Dennis, Rosemary Prola, Jim Shepherd and Michael Vaughn, all members of the community's Resident Architectural Committee, will be recognized for their contributions to the community. The committee meets twice a month to review exterior alteration applications and visits the properties.

The four volunteers will receive gifts, and their names will be inscribed on a plaque to be hung in the lobby of The Other Barn.

Rakes, an east Columbia Democrat, will receive a plaque of appreciation for his work on behalf of the community. His efforts include help in seeking a suitable location for a proposed methadone clinic, his leadership of a campaign to speed the opening of the Food Lion grocery store and his work with the county to enhance street lighting, said Sandy Cederbaum, village manager.

The board will meet at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.
