Mariners update

A bad start for the Mariners has been followed by another slump. After winning four straight, they have lost five in a row to remain in last place in the AL West. Seattle allowed five or more runs in 10 of its first 17 games and lost them all. Garcia has allowed eight runs in 27 2/3 innings, but the Mariners have scored only six for him. Seattle won the season series from the Orioles last year, 5-4, though it lost two of three games at Camden Yards. Jamie Moyer ran his winning streak against his former team to 14 games after 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Seattle. DuBose took a one-hitter into the ninth inning of an Aug. 29 game in Seattle, but the bullpen failed to hold the lead in a 3-2 loss. Facing the Mariners again in Baltimore, DuBose held them to one run in eight innings to win Sept. 6. Reliever Rafael Soriano will accompany Seattle to Baltimore and throw before a decision is made to activate him.
