Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes from police reports in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Baltimore City

Eastern District

Shooting: A 23-year-old man was shot in the head shortly before 1 a.m. yesterday in the 1100 block of Rutland Ave. He was reported in serious condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Robbery: A man armed with a double-barreled shotgun robbed Hair Zone in the 500 block of Old Town Mall of more than $500 about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Southeastern District

Victim identified: A man found fatally shot about 3 p.m. April 19 in the 1500 block of May Court in the Douglass Homes public housing complex has been identified by police as James Kenneth Coffey, 24, a resident of the 1500 block of Mullikin Court. No arrest has been made. Police urge anyone with information about the killing to call Detective Thomas Martin at 410-396- 2100.

Shooting: A man was shot in the head, neck and chest about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of Jefferson St. The victim, identified as Jeffrey Byrd, 21, of the 400 block of N. Streeper St., was in critical condition last night at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Northwestern District

Shootings: A 19-year-old man was shot in the thigh about 11:20 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Linden Heights Ave. The victim was in good condition yesterday at Sinai Hospital.

Theft from vehicle: A bench-top tool case with tools, valued at $600, was stolen Thursday from a 1983 Chevrolet Camaro parked in the 2300 block of Tioga Parkway.

Western District

Aggravated assault: A 70- year-old man was attacked with a jack handle about 10 p.m. Friday in the 1800 block of Mosher St. He was not seriously injured but was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center as a precaution, police said. A man in his 50s, whose name was not released, was arrested.

Robbery try: A 37-year-old woman was leaving her home in the 700 block of Appleton St. about 5 a.m. Thursday when a man known to her as "Rock" and armed with a knife demanded she turn out her coat pockets and give him money. When the woman complied and showed she had no money, the man fled.

Southern District

Shoplifting/arrest: A 56-year-old man was arrested Thursday when he tried to leave Giant Food in the 2100 block of W. Patapsco Ave. without paying for $39 worth of deodorants.

Baltimore County

Franklin Precinct

Burglary/arrest: The owner of a vacant apartment in the first block of Shetland Circle was checking the premises Thursday morning when he opened a bedroom closet and found a man sleeping. Police arrested Jorge Rivera, 19, of the 100 block of Carraway Road, and charged him with burglary. Police said Rivera entered through a kitchen window, drank beer, entered the closet and passed out.

Burglary: A watch and $300 were stolen Thursday from a house in the 8200 block of Brattle Road by someone who entered through a rear window.

Cockeysville Precinct

Attempted burglary: A gate covering the window of a golf course storage center in the 2100 block of Dulaney Valley Road was pried open sometime early Friday. It was unclear whether anything was taken.

Burglary: A hedge trimmer and lawn edger were taken about 2:45 p.m. Friday from the garage of a home in the 1200 block of Mount Carmel Road. A suspect was seen driving away in a maroon Honda Civic. The tools were valued at $400.
