Body of man found in wrecked car

April 22, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A driver was found dead in his wrecked car yesterday evening on a grassy embankment off Route 32 near Liberty Reservoir.

A pedestrian noticed the crumpled 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier about 5:45 p.m. and called police, said Cpl. Charles Hahn of Westminster barracks.

The driver was identified as Michael Vahaly, 43, of the 2100 block of Bollinger Mill Road in Finksburg. Police said he suffered multiple injuries.

Police said the driver may have been speeding south on Route 32 when the car struck a guardrail and tree and then tumbled down the embankment near Miners Ridge Drive.

Police have not determined how long the car had been there.
