WINE OF THE WEEK

April 21, 2004|By Michael Dresser

2003 Ca' del Solo Malvasia Bianca, Monterey White Table Wine ($13.49). With the exotic mix of flavors in this white wine - honey, tropical fruit, grapefruit, lime, cherry, minerals and juniper, to name a few - you'd expect it to be rather sweet. No way. This is a very dry wine - perhaps too dry for some. There's no questioning its liveliness or its crackle on the palate, however. This would be a fine choice to serve with grilled seafood - or maybe with raw oysters and wasabi (don't knock it till you've tried it). This wine, like most from the Bonny Doon empire, comes with a sleek, sophisticated screw cap rather than obsolete cork technology.
