On Thursday, April 8, 2004, MRS. ADA VIRGINIA La PLANTE BURNS, 78, of Florida, formerly of Demascus, MD, at Cypress Village Nursing Home in Jacksonville, FL. Born April 11, 1925, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alfred La Plante and Virginia Mc Bride Mercer. She retired after 28 years with the State Department of Assessments and Taxation, Montgomery County Government. She was a past president and member of the Damascus American Legion Auxiliary Post 171. She was a member of the Wesley Grove United Methodist Church in Woodfield, MD. She enjoyed cooking, playing scrabble and crosswords puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Floyd "Buddy" Burns, on April 16, 2003. Surviving are two chose daughters, Darlene Dorsey and husband Philip, of Mt. Airy, MD and Norita Shipley, of Gaithersburg, MD; two sisters, Naomi Evans and husband Claude, of Palm Harbor, FL and Dolly Burdette, of Bunker Hill, WV; and many nieces and nephews. Ada will be missed and remembered by her many friends. She will also be remembered by her granddaughter Holly Jackson and husband Kevin and great-grandsons Josh and Derek, of Mt. Airy, MD. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 P.M., on Friday, May 7, 2004, in Quinn-Shalz Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to a favorite charity.
