Towson wins on goal with :56 left

Senior Abby Giancola scored the game-winner with 56 seconds left in regulation to lift host No. 17 Towson over No. 20 George Mason, 11-10, in women's college lacrosse last night at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The Tigers (9-2, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association) have won four in a row and remain undefeated at home.

The Patriots (3-5, 1-2) took an 8-5 lead in the second half. After falling behind 9-8, George Mason tied the game at 9-9 with 1:53 left. Towson's Amy Middleton won the draw that set up Giancola's winning goal.

Becky Trumbo (Liberty) and Shannon Witzel each scored three goals for Towson.

Sarah Bryant, Jeannine Ohler and Katie Scott (Broadneck) each had two goals for George Mason.

Towson's Jessica O'Connell posted her seventh game in a row with double-digit saves with 10.

Meg Dentler (Arundel) had 11 saves for the Patriots.
