Devil Rays

Tampa Bay gets its first chance to play a team other than the New York Yankees. A four-game series - the first two in Japan - produced a split. The Orioles were 8-11 against the Devil Rays last year, losing the season series for the first time since 1999. They were 2-7 at Tropicana Field, including a three-game sweep in August that pretty much sealed former manager Mike Hargrove's fate. The Orioles can get reacquainted with catcher Brook Fordyce, who signed with Tampa Bay during the winter and backs up Toby Hall. The Devil Rays added first baseman Tino Martinez and right fielder Jose Cruz as free agents. They also picked up closer Danys Baez, who led the league in blown saves last year. Hendrickson, a former NBA player, was acquired in a three-team trade during the winter meetings.
