Meet the Band

FYI: pop culture news

April 08, 2004|By Sarah Schaffer

Hometown: Baltimore

Current Members: Charles Jamison, vocals and guitar; Jeff Bradford, drums; Paul Gier, bass; Corrie LoGuidice, cello, keyboard.

Founded in: 1996

Style: post-punk / quirk-rock

Influenced by: Devo, the Pixies, Robyn Hitchcock and the Talking Heads

Notable: This group, which formed from the ashes of two local acts (Octopus and Glazeride), has been through nearly a dozen personnel changes over the years. Vocalist / guitarist / songwriter Charles Jamison is the only original member still rocking with LSR.

But despite the constant stream of new players, the Baltimore-based band has managed to produce a number of full-length recordings. Its latest, Intermission, was released earlier this month on amBiguous CITY! Records.

Quotable: Jamison on enduring a Spinal Tap- esque revolving door of musicians: "Even though it was disruptive, it never was painful. And the people coming and going kept things fresh; it kept my interest in the band. When someone would leave, ... I would just start throwing out all this new material -- and that would get everyone excited again."

Check out Landspeedrecord tomorrow when it plays the amBiguous CITY! Records showcase at the Sidebar Tavern. All the Dead Pilots, Clydesdale and Sparks Fly From a Kiss are also billed. Doors open at 9 p.m. The Sidebar is at 218 E. Lexington St. For more information, call 410-659-4130 or visit www.sidebartavern. com.
