Check out Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam tomorrow and Saturday at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center.
The winner of the 2003 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event, Def Poetry Jam brings the energy of poets such as Black Ice, Mayda Del Valle and Georgia Me to the stage.
Friday's show is at 8 p.m. and Saturday's is at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $20-$45.

Learn how your favorite comic-book characters have evolved at the Johns Hopkins University next Wednesday.
Bradford W. Wright, author of Comic Book Nation: The Transformation of Youth Culture in America, will discuss the history of comic books from the 1930s into post-9 / 11 society.
The talks will take place at noon and 7 p.m. Admission is free.
The noon talk will take place at Shriver Hall on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus (3400 N. Charles St.). The 7 p.m. talk will be at the Episcopal Diocesan on the corner of East University Parkway and North Charles Street. For more information, call 410-516-4162.
