Patricia A. Roland, 77, registered nurse, instructor

Patricia A. Roland, a registered nurse and former nursing staff development instructor at Sinai Hospital, died of pancreatic cancer Saturday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The Timonium resident was 77.

Patricia Ann Dumm was born and raised in Altoona, Pa., and was a 1948 graduate of Sinai Hospital's old nursing school.

She served as a lieutenant with the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital from 1951 to 1953.

Mrs. Roland earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Baltimore and a master's from the Johns Hopkins University.

She began her nursing career at Sinai in the late 1940s.

Mrs. Roland spent the last 20 years of her career as an instructor in the hospital's staff development department.

Mrs. Roland was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 20 E. Ridgely Road in Timonium, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John E. Roland; a son, Kevin E. Roland of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
