Holding the first pick in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, the Baltimore Bayhawks are planning to select senior attackman Michael Powell of Syracuse.

The 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft is scheduled to take place at Sacred Heart University on Thursday, June 3, two days before the Bayhawks' game against the New Jersey Pride in Denver, Colo.

A three-time All-America selection on attack, Powell has also earned the Jack Turnbull Award as the nation's top Division I attackman three straight seasons. He is among Syracuse's all-time leaders in career points with 254 and needs just 34 points during the remainder to become the school's all-time leading scorer.

"We are very much looking forward to bringing the best player in college lacrosse to Baltimore," Bayhawks General Manager Jay Pivec said. "It will not only be great for the Bayhawks, but great for the fans of the biggest hotbed of lacrosse in the country.

Powell will join his brothers, Casey and Ryan, as players in Major League Lacrosse. Casey and Ryan Powell are teammates for the Rochester Rattlers. The first potential meeting for the trio would be in Baltimore on June 13 at Unitas Stadium.

The Bayhawks open the 2004 season in Seattle on May 22, when the Bayhawks take on the Rochester Rattlers at 10:30 p.m. Baltimore opens its home schedule on May 27, hosting the Boston Cannons at 7 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

In other roster moves, the Bayhawks released midfielder Gavin Prout and acquired attackman Kyle Campbell.
