The city housing department and the Live Baltimore Home Center are sponsoring a Buying into Baltimore Homebuying Fair and Neighborhood Tour on the west side next month.

Participants can tour the neighborhoods, visit homes for sale and learn about the home-buying process. Mortgage lenders, real estate brokers, insurance agents and community groups will meet with prospective buyers.

The first 50 participants to close on a house in the targeted neighborhoods within 90 days of the fair will be eligible for a $3,000 grant toward down payment and closing costs.

The fair, which has been held twice a year since 1999, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at the Polytechnic Institute, 1400 W. Cold Spring Lane.

The event is free.

Information: www.livebalti more.com. The east-side fair is scheduled Sept. 11 at City College, 3220 The Alameda.
