Meet the Band

FYI: pop culture news

April 01, 2004|By Sarah Schaffer

Hometown: Arnold

Founded in: 1994

Style: The genre-jumping singer / songwriter / guitarist has played everything from alt-country to power pop.

Influenced by: Local bands circa 1991 (with names that can't be printed in the paper).

Notable: When rock 'n' roll hardships recently arose, this local rock maven didn't miss a beat. After her band ditched her just two weeks before a scheduled tour in late 2002, an unfazed MP picked up two replacement musicians and started fresh, on the road.

To celebrate the release of her new album, Lemonade: LIVE, the problem-solving MP will kick off a new solo acoustic tour Saturday at Fletcher's.

Quotable: MP on her chameleon style: "I've always kind of considered genres like the colors in a palette. It's whatever style fits the mood ... and the point of the song."

Check out Mary Prankster Saturday at Fletcher's. Plastic East will also play an unplugged set. Doors open at 9 p.m. for this all-ages show. Tickets are $12. Fletcher's is at 701 S. Bond St. For more information, call 410-558-1889 or visit www.fletchersbar.com.
