Hershey Gardens opens

Enjoy the sights and scents of Hershey Gardens, a 23-acre botanical display, which opens for its 68th season today in Hershey, Pa. The gardens are open daily April through October.

See shrubs, budding trees, daffodils, forsythia and more. A tulip display includes about 100 varieties of more than 30,000 tulips. Also, the new Children's Garden - opened last year - features 30 theme gardens.

Hershey Gardens is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily April-May and September; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Fridays-Sundays June-August; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily October, and is at 170 Hotel Road, Hershey, Pa. Shorebirds event

The Delmarva Shorebirds - the other baseball-playing "birds" in town - are welcoming their coming season with a free "Shorebirds Showcase" event Saturday at their ballpark, Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury. The Shorebirds' season kicks off at home April 12.

Saturday's fun-filled "Showcase" event includes food samples, tryouts to sing the "Star-Spangled Banner," an Easter egg hunt, tours of the ballpark, a baseball clinic, carnival games, information on game tickets and more.

Easter display

More than 1,000 Easter lilies fill the Longwood Gardens Conservatory in Kennett Square, Pa., for its Easter display, which runs Saturday through April 16.

Hydrangeas, marguerites, blue daisies, foxgloves and delphiniums fill the indoor lawns, while magnolias, rhododendrons, bulbs and cherries adorn the outdoor gardens.

Children's activities, as well as live performances by acts such as the Brandywine Ballet Company, Curtis Institute of Music and carillonneur Lisa Lonie, take place daily.
