Reese gets winner to carry Maryland by Penn State, 12-11

Mollie Reese scored the game-winner with 17:52 left as the eighth-ranked Maryland women's lacrosse team edged No. 20 Penn State, 12-11, yesterday in the first game of the ACC/ALC Challenge in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Maryland's Acacia Walker had her first three-goal game of the season, and Annie Collins scored two goals and had two assists - including one on the game-winner.

The Terps (7-2) used seven straight goals from the end of the first half to the beginning of the second to take control over Penn State (2-6).

Towson 11, Richmond 10: Sophomore Becky Trumbo scored four goals, including the winning goal in the last minute, as the host Tigers (6-2) upset the No. 19 Spiders (3-4) at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

McDaniel 16, College of Notre Dame 7: The host Gators (3-3) scored the first three goals, but Kim Lowry (South Carroll) totaled five goals and four assists to power the visiting Green Terror (5-1).

Goals from Sara Breidenbaugh (Perry Hall), Rebecca Dodson (Hereford) and Lori Baran (Perry Hall) put Notre Dame up 3-0 at the 27:34 mark of the first half.

Lowry scored five goals over the next 31:10 to put McDaniel (5-1) up 12-5.

Shenandoah 18, Hood 3: The host Hornets (3-3) - led by Lauren Carpinello with five goals - built a 10-0 halftime lead and outshot the Blazers (1-5) 19-5 in Winchester, Va.

Mount St. Mary's 19, Long Island 9: Ellen Keener scored four goals and added an assist to lead the visiting Mount (5-3, 2-0 Northeast Conference) past the Blackbirds (2-5, 0-1).
