The Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development released the names yesterday of the donors to a nonprofit organization set up to help defray the state's costs of entertaining at the 2003 Preakness Stakes.

The organization -- which checked with its donors before giving the names to the department -- raised $90,000. The donations included $25,000 from Constellation Energy, $25,000 from the Baltimore Orioles, $25,000 from Lee's Ice Cream, $5,000 from SunTrust Bank, $5,000 from Arundel Computers, $4,000 from Claudia's Kitchen and $1,000 from Lee's co-owner Steven Rubin.

At a House hearing last week , lawmakers pressured Business Secretary Aris Melissaratos to release the names. Melissaratos said the nonprofit group was set up to save money. He rejected accusations that access to the governor was traded for donations.
