Fund-raiser set for child of slain soldier

March 20, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

About 500 motorcyclists are expected to ride through Cambridge tomorrow to raise money for the 8-year-old daughter of a soldier killed in Iraq.

Adam's Ride will honor the memory of 1st Lt. Adam G. Mooney, 28, of Cambridge. He was killed in January near Mosul when his helicopter crashed into the Tigris River as the crew was looking for people whose boat had capsized.

The money raised will go to the Sydney Mooney Trust Fund to help his daughter, said Ryan Turner of Cambridge. Turner, who graduated with Mooney from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School in 1993, and John Donohue, a former Marine and Desert Storm veteran, organized the fund-raiser.
