G. Kenneth Jones, 74, insurance broker

G. Kenneth Jones, a retired insurance broker, died of leukemia Friday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The Whiteford resident was 74.

Born in Whiteford, he was a 1947 graduate of Slate Ridge High School in Cardiff. He earned a bachelor's degree and a law degree from the University of Baltimore.

In 1963, he bought an insurance agency in Delta, Pa., and named it the Ken Jones Agency. He retired in 1995.

He was a past president of the Harford and Cecil County Insurance Agency Association and a founder of the Reba A. Jones Foundation, a charitable foundation named for his mother. The foundation assists needy Harford County families.

He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and was a volunteer at the Cecil and Harford county detention centers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, Darlington, where he formerly served on the vestry.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, the former Marlyn Bodine; three sons, David B. Jones of Whiteford, Jeffrey A. Jones of Clifton, Va., and John H. Jones of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Gary Jones of San Jose, Calif., and John J. Jones of Red Lion, Pa.; a sister, Anna Mosher of North Dartmouth, Mass.; and four grandchildren. A son, Douglas E. Jones, died in 1989.
