Lena Beatrice Boone, 89, homemaker, traveler

Lena Beatrice Boone, a homemaker who enjoyed travel, died Wednesday of congestive heart failure at Northwest Hospital Center. The Randallstown resident was 89.

Born Lena Beatrice Cannon in Starksville, Miss., she moved to Baltimore in 1942 and worked at the General Motors plant on Broening Highway, helping to make military vehicles.

She assisted her husband of 68 years, George H. Boone Sr., in opening a West Baltimore furniture and appliance company. He died in 2002.

Mrs. Boone traveled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico and the Pacific.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at New Shiloh Baptist Church, 2100 N. Monroe St., where she was a member for more than 60 years.

Survivors include three sons, George H. Boone Jr. of Crownsville, Edward L. Boone of Baltimore and Maurice L. Boone of Suitland; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
