Hearings scheduled on county's proposed operating budget

Hearings on Carroll County's proposed operating budget for fiscal 2005 are scheduled today at the County Office Building in Westminster.

Various departments and services, including the library system, recreation and parks, social services and the state's attorney's office, will make additional budgetary requests for the fiscal year that begins in July.

The operating budget is projected to be $259.5 million, a 6 percent increase over this fiscal year.

The hearings are expected to begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. in Room 300A at 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

Council of Governments to discuss growth issues

The Carroll County Council of Governments, which was formed 18 months ago to represent the eight towns as well as the Finksburg and Freedom areas, has decided to tackle growth issues this year.

Town representatives should bring an overview of growth for the next decade to this year's first meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 157-159 at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.

The county's planning director, Steven C. Horn, will review the county master plan, and Carroll officials will provide information on the area's water and sewer projects.
