Health fair to offer wellness screenings at senior center

Northwest Hospital Center will offer preventive health screenings at South Carroll Senior Center's health fair starting at 9 a.m. March 25.

Blood pressure and breathing screenings will be offered. Blood profiles will be available for $15 and will include glucose, potassium, iron, total cholesterol with breakdown and other chemistries (12-hour fasting is required).

Appointments are required. The health fair is open to all residents.

The center is at 5745 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg.

Relay for Life to hold bull roast March 26

Relay for Life of Carroll will hold a bull roast from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. March 26 at Martin's Westminster to raise money for American Cancer Society programs.

Tickets are $25. Proceeds go toward the annual Relay for Life event scheduled for May 14 and 15 at Westminster High School.

Relay for Life is an overnight event that celebrates surviving cancer, as well as research into the causes and cures for the disease.

CPR, first aid classes scheduled for April

The American Red Cross will offer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid classes.

Classes will be held at Westminster Senior Center (WSC), 125 Stoner Ave., and New Windsor Brethren Service Center (BSC), lower level of Windsor Hall, New Windsor.

Participants must register and pay for classes in advance. Available courses are:

Adult CPR: Classes are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 10 at WSC and April 17 at BSC and cost $37.

Adult, Infant and Child CPR: Classes are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 17 at BSC and cost $42.

Adult CPR and First Aid Basics: Classes are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 10 at WSC and cost $42.

Pet First Aid Training: Classes are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 24 at the Carroll County district office, Brethren Service Center, and cost $40.

Babysitter's Training: For youths 11 to 15. The class is nine hours and costs $40. Information and registration: Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks, 410-386-2103.

Crime Avoidance Training: Instructors will come to your facility or group for training. A minimum of 10 people is required for classes. Cost is $9.95 per person.

Lisa Forney is named center's clinical manager

Lisa Forney, a licensed practical nurse, has been named clinical manager of the Health Care Center at Carroll Lutheran Village.

A 15-year employee of the village, Forney will work closely with Diane Elliott, director of nursing.

Forney will oversee major programs in the Health Care Center, including staff scheduling, infection control, quality assurance and the clinical aspect of the nurse management team.

Previously Forney managed the largest unit of the Health Care Center. She lives in Union Bridge.
