Hearing to focus on council changes

March 10, 2004

The Baltimore City Council's Transition Commission will hold a public hearing tomorrow evening at City Hall on issues relating to the changeover in December to a new structure with 14 single-member council districts.

The public is invited to testify on issues including fiscal implications of a smaller council as it shrinks from the current composition of six three-member districts; checks and balances on land-use; and how district vacancies should be filled.

The commission is serving as an oversight body to assess and provide recommendations on accountability, accessibility and efficiency of the restructured council. The meeting is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. in the Curran Room.
