Morgan State women again exit quickly

Bethune-Cookman ends MEAC tourney play, 81-52

RICHMOND, Va. - The tournament drought continues for the Morgan State women.

Winless in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference postseason play since 2000, the Lady Bears couldn't match sixth-seeded Bethune-Cookman's firepower yesterday and meekly bowed out of the 2004 tournament, 81-52.

The game was almost a carbon copy of their two games during the regular season, when Bethune-Cookman won by 29 and 40 points, thanks to a superior offense.

"Our scoring output doesn't match theirs. We just couldn't keep up," Morgan coach Angelyne Brown said after her team finished with a 3-25 record.

The Lady Bears hit the floor with determination and aggression, staying within 21-18 until the Lady Wildcats blew them away with a 23-1 run that covered nearly 13 minutes and extended into the second half.

With Katie Clark (9-for-10 from the field, game-high 21 points) on fire, Bethune-Cookman (14-13) went up by 44-19 before Sharonda Watson (20 points) regained her eye to stop the surge with a three-pointer.

There was nothing left but to play it out as Bethune-Cookman, the sixth seed, advanced to a Thursday meeting with third-seeded Coppin State.
