Diversity is the key to a healthy stock portfolio. But when your investments become a jumble of individual stocks and mutual funds, all growing at different rates, how can you tell if your holdings are properly balanced?

Enter Morningstar's Instant X-Ray. The free online service quickly dissects a portfolio, breaking it down by asset type, industry sector, location and company size. Charts and graphs also show how your portfolio is apportioned among growth, core and value stocks, as well as a breakdown by various stock types, from high yield to distressed to cyclical to aggressive growth. Average figures for projected growth, price-earnings ratio, expense ratio and other fundamentals also are provided.

Instant X-Ray is cool enough to use on a single mutual fund, but you'll be amazed by its ability to crunch the numbers for a complete portfolio. To find it, click on "tools" at Morningstar's home page.
