Meet the Band / The Gamma Rays

Meet the Band

FYI: pop culture news

March 04, 2004|By Sarah Schaffer

Hometown: Baltimore

Current members: Eric Jacobsen, lead vocals and guitar; Matt Dorsey, drums and vocals; Mike Liszewski, bass and vocals; Jason Fritch, guitar and vocals.

Founded in: 2001

Style: Punk rock

Influenced by: The Ramones, The Clash, The Kinks and Screeching Weasel, to name a few.

Notable: Forever in pursuit of an audience and a good time, these rockers say they'll play anywhere and everywhere, from basement parties and backyard barbecues to dingy bars and cavernous clubs. As a testament to their workhorse ways, the GR guys landed a spot playing the Washington leg of the 2002 Warped Tour, just a year after forming the group.

Quotable: Jacobsen on the band's future and its coming full-length CD: "We're just gonna keep trying. We're set on doing national tours. I think our release with Insubordination Records ... is a giant step for us as far as getting our music out nationally. It's gonna take us to the next level, whatever that may be."

Catch the Gamma Rays tonight at the Sidebar Tavern. Also billed is acoustic-punk act Even In Blackouts. Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $7. The band is also scheduled to play an all-ages set Wednesday at the Ottobar.

The Sidebar Tavern is at 218 E. Lexington St. For more information, call 410-659-4130 or visit www.sidebartavern.com. For more information on the Gamma Rays, visit www.insubordination records.com.
