WINE OF THE WEEK

March 03, 2004|By Michael Dresser

2001 Chateau Paveil de Luze, Margaux ($22). Good, affordable red Bordeaux is increasingly a challenge to find, but this Margaux estate provides a welcome taste of regional flavor without the hard tannins or long cellaring times of its bigger brothers. It's a medium-bodied wine with subtlety and style. Elements of tobacco and earth add some complexity to its straightforward black-cherry flavors. It's not made for long aging, but it should be quite enjoyable over the next three years, especially when served with red meat, roast chicken or finer pasta dishes.
