Mount men win, qualify for NEC tourney

Kiel Butler scored 16 points as Mount St. Mary's earned a spot in the Northeast Conference tournament for the first time since 1999-2000 with a 68-62 victory over visiting Monmouth.

Blake Hamilton converted a three-point play with 1:39 left to bring Monmouth (18-11, 12-6) to 62-60, but Antonio Johnson hit a 15-footer with 1:06 left to give the Mountaineers (10-18, 8-10) some breathing room.

Wagner helped the Mountaineers earn the final spot in the tournament by defeating Sacred Heart. (Box score, 8c)

Women

Sacred Heart 81, Mount St. Mary's 71: Ashley Kohl scored 24 points to lead the host Pioneers (20-7, 14-4 NEC). Adrienne Harris scored 33 for the Mountaineers (9-18, 8-10).
