A 31-year-old man was killed and two people were injured Saturday night after someone apparently opened fire as a fight erupted at a party in Crofton, Anne Arundel County police said.

Pronounced dead at Anne Arundel Medical Center was Andre Summers, whose address was not released.

A 27-year-old woman who was shot in the left hip and a 28-year-old man shot in the right leg were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

Police said they were withholding the names of the wounded for "investigative purposes." No arrest had been made last night.

Neighbors identified the woman as Michele Summers, whose home in the 2000 block of Lake Grove Lane was the site of the party, and neighbor Wayne Falduti.

Michele Summers, who is Andre Summers' sister, was reported in fair condition yesterday at the trauma center. A hospital spokeswoman said Falduti was released about 5 a.m.

Falduti could not be reached last night, but told WBFF-TV (Channel 45) earlier in the day that the violence broke out when Michele Summers' former boyfriend showed up at the party and was asked to leave.

Falduti said Andre Summers was fatally shot after running outside to defend his sister.

Police said witnesses told them that the three had been at a party in the area when a fight broke out shortly before 10 p.m. One person pulled out a gun and fired several times, police said.
