February 29, 2004

A 17-year-old West Baltimore boy died early yesterday of wounds suffered Friday when a drive-by assailant shot him in the back as he sat in a parked car near his home, police said.

Earl Bundy of the 1800 block of Thomas Ave. died at 12:02 a.m. at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore police Detective Frank Miller said. A second man in the car, Xavier Reed, 21, of the 1800 block of Warwick Ave., was in serious condition late yesterday in Shock Trauma with gunshot wounds to the back and left arm, he said.

Bundy was hit in the back multiple times when he turned and dove toward Reed in the passenger seat as gunfire shattered a window of the Dodge Intrepid in which the men were sitting, Miller said. The shooting, which occurred about 8:30 p.m., appeared linked to a dispute over drug-dealing territory, he said. Police did not release a description of the assailant's vehicle.
