Hospital announces March screenings at Arundel Mills site

North Arundel Hospital will offer the following screenings and exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront between Jillian's and Mall Entrance 4 next month:

Monday, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., information on arthritis and joint replacement surgery; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure and anemia screenings, as well as story time for parents and children from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

March 2, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

March 3, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., a licensed social worker will conduct depression and anxiety screenings.

March 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

March 5, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., neck and shoulder massages and information about massage therapy.

March 8, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

March 9, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

March 10, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., a diabetes educator will be on hand to discuss diabetes and diet, as well as lifestyle changes.

March 11, 10 a.m. to noon, back screenings.

March 15, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., information from the county department of aging on its services and aging.

March 16, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

March 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

March 18, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., blood pressure and lung capacity screenings; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

March 22, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

March 23, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

March 25, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the hospital's human resources department will offer a job fair.

March 29, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Sleep Center will offer sleep surveys and information on diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. 410-787-4367.

Red Cross offers CPR, first aid courses

Courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid have been scheduled for next month at several sites in Anne Arundel County by American Red Cross of Central Maryland. They include:

Adult CPR, training in emergency action principles, rescue breathing, anti-choking procedure and rescue for victims age 8 and older. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 6 and 13, Edgewater Red Cross, 3475 Pike Ridge Road, Edgewater; 9 a.m., March 20, Stanton Community Center, 92 W. Washington St., Annapolis; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., March 23, Edgewater Red Cross, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 27, Edgewater and Annapolis. Cost: $37.

Adult, Infant and Child CPR, training for use on victims in variety of emergency situations, including performing rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway and performing one-rescuer CPR, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 20, Annapolis and March 27, Edgewater. Cost: $42.

First Aid Basics, training to identify and care for victims of illness and sudden injuries; participants learn to control bleeding, minimize shock, care for musculoskeletal injuries, and illnesses due to poisoning and heat and cold emergencies. This course does not include Adult CPR. Class will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., March 8, Edgewater. Cost: $35.

Adult CPR and First Aid Basics, training in rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway, performing one-rescuer CPR on victims age 8 and older. Course also includes first aid basics on how to treat life-threatening bleeding, burns, fractures, shock and sudden illness. The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 6 and 13, Edgewater; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., March 23 and 25, Edgewater, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 27, Annapolis. Cost. $42.

Infant and Child CPR, training for those who might be reluctant to act in emergency situations and have frequent contact with children younger than age 8 in emergency situations, including performing rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway and performing one-rescuer CPR, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 13, Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Blvd., Severna Park, and March 20, Edgewater Red Cross. Fee: $37.

Infant and Child CPR and First Aid, training parents and caregivers to overcome reluctance to act during emergency situations regarding children by learning rescue breathing, one-rescuer CPR, first aid for choking victims, controlling bleeding and treating injuries common to infants and children. Classes to be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., March 13, Severna Park and Mar. 20 Edgewater Red Cross. Cost $42.

Crime Avoidance Training, interactive training that focuses on empowering individuals to take responsibility for their safety. The class, organized around a typical day, covers security awareness, tough-target strategies, safety on the move, using an ATM and responding to threatening situations. Instructors will come to a facility, group or organization at a time that is convenient for the group. A minimum of 10 people is required. The fee is $9.95.
