GOP perspective on DeRan news

While I congratulate Craig H. DeRan on his recent appointment to the Democratic Central Committee, to a large extent his appointment is the result of the Republican Party's success in Harford County.

Mr. DeRan is actually filling the third vacancy the Democratic Central Committee has experienced in a little more than a year's time. In fact, a few of the former members of the Democratic Central Committee are now registered Republicans. During the same timeframe, the Republican Central Committee has had no vacancies.

More importantly, the Democratic Party has steadily lost ground to a resurgent Republican Party. From a margin of over 5,000 Democrats than Republicans in January 2003, the difference has dwindled in one year to only 3,500 registered voters.

Since the election of Bob Ehrlich as governor, Harford County has increasingly trended Republican.

William Christoforo

The writer is chairman of the Harford County Republican Central Committee.
