Chamber to present business awards at member luncheon

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will hold a member luncheon at noon March 11 at Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center.

Small-business awards will be presented. The cost is $18, and reservations are required by March 4.

Agency caring for seniors marks 2nd year in region

Visiting Angels, a national provider of assisted-living services for seniors, is celebrating its two-year anniversary in the region.

The local company is owned and operated by Marty and Carolyn Burns, and D'Alan and Jackie Baugh, longtime residents of Carroll County.

The Eldersburg office also is announcing its expansion and relocation to larger offices at 1425 Liberty Road, Suite 211.

Marty Burns, a former staffing and recruitment executive, and his wife, a physical therapist, saw the growing need for services for seniors. They started Visiting Angels in February 2002, offering a personalized approach to caring for the growing senior population.

Visiting Angels is recognized as a non-medical service agency that helps seniors and older adults continue to live in their homes. Services include basic chores, personal hygiene, meal preparation, shopping and companionship, as well as a variety of other specialized and creative services.

Life insurance company honors Westminster agent

Dee Farley of Interstate Financial Services Inc. in Westminster was recently honored for achieving Century Club status with Shenandoah Life Insurance Co. of Virginia.

Of Shenandoah's nearly 10,000 agents in 38 states, Farley was in the top 100 in sales production.

Century Club qualifiers are eligible for a trip to Prague, Czech Republic.

Main Event joins network of online balloon providers

The Main Event, a retail party supply and balloon delivery provider, is becoming a charter member of BalloonPlanet.com.

BalloonPlanet.com is an online balloon delivery service, pioneered by Jim Parker, a professional in the balloon delivery industry for 23 years.

The online service offers helium-filled creations ranging from classic jumbo balloons to 5-foot hot air balloon models, flower-shaped balloons and 6-foot LifeSaver replica balloons.

The company also offers a decorating guide for special events.

The Main Event in Mount Airy will offer BalloonPlanet. com products and services.

Community Banks board issues quarterly dividends

The board of directors of Community Banks Inc. has declared a quarterly cash dividend of 17 cents a share, payable April 1 to shareholders of record March 17.

The board also approved a 5 percent stock dividend to be paid April 30 to shareholders of record April 16.

The bank's net income for last year increased to $20.4 million, an 11 percent increase over 2002.

Community Banks has two branches in Carroll County.
