No. 4 Duke women rout UMBC

Maryvale grad Chrest has part in 5 of winners' goals

Fourth-ranked Duke shut down UMBC in the second half on the way to routing the Retrievers, 17-4, yesterday in a women's lacrosse season opener for both teams.

The Blue Devils were dominant. They outscored the Retrievers 11-0 over the game's final 24:04 and won 19 of 23 draws. They never trailed after taking a 1-0 lead on sophomore Katie Chrest's goal just over a minute into the game.

Chrest, The Sun's 2002 All-Metro Player of the Year from Maryvale, finished with three goals and two assists.

Jen Dragoni scored three times for the Retrievers.
