C. UMHAU WOLF, Ph.D, of Toledo, OH formerly of Hamilton/Baltimore, MD died peacefully Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the age of 89. Umhau attended Garrett Heights, Clifton Jr. High School and Baltimore City College and graduated from John Hopkins University with a B.A. He returned after WW II for post-doctoral work and was the ROTC Chaplain and administrator of Levering Hall at John Hopkins. While in Baltimore, he served as the YMCA Executive Secretary. He was a pioneer in Gerontology/Aging, which has lad to the development of concepts and material about pre-retirement planning for both clergy and laity of many denominations around the country and in Canada. After his retirement he was inducted in to the first class of the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1983. He was a WW II Army veteran serving as a Chaplin with the First Infantry Division. His parents, brother, Herbert and loving wives, Dorothy Rising and Betty Jane Hartman, all predeceased him in death. Surviving are his children, Marianne Degnan (J. Robert) Jensen of Severna Park, MD, James (Shelia) Wolf of Alburn Hills, KY, Noel (Jo Ann) Wolf of Alpine, TX, Chris Palmerton of Toledo and Barbara Wolf of Grand Junction, CO. Also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Sunday, February 22, 2004 at 2 P.M. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 428 N. Erie St., Toledo, OH with Pastor Richard Powell, II officiating. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Wolf Memorial at Trinity Seminary, St. Paul's Radio Ministry, Lutheran World Relief or the charity of the donor's choice.
